What I Learned Milking a Cow: Costa Rica

What I Learned Milking a Cow

What I Learned Milking a Cow

ADVENTURE: Any experience in life that allows you to learn and grow.

Anytime I’m traveling and I have the opportunity to explore or try something new, I’m like ‘bring it on!’ My goal is to experience as much as I can in this lifetime. Even if it’s something as basic as milking a cow.

While I was in Costa Rica I stayed with my Soul Adventure Retreat co-host, Sarah, on her farm. I told her I wanted to experience doing the morning chores. I knew this was an opportunity I would never have back home in the city – and it made me excited!

It’s funny how something that seemed exciting to me is a hum-drum every day routine for someone else – and one I’m sure they would love to skip now and then. Mind you – I’m sure if I had to get up early everyday and do farm chores, the novelty would quickly wear off.

It was amazing to witness a completely different life than what I’m used to. I kept asking myself if I could live this full-time Costa Rica farm life. I know I would miss my North American conveniences but would I eventually get used to a brand new life somewhere else?

Whether or not I would love it is yet to be determined – but what it made me realize is that we so often fantasize about living a certain life, or reaching a specific goal because we have this idea of what exactly it will feel like when we achieve it. However – most of the time we rarely feel how we expected to in the end. Expectations get in the way, along with not realizing reality always feels different than a fantasy. Fantasies don’t take into account the fears that pop up along the way. They also don”t give you a full 360 degree view of what the experience will entail.

The biggest lesson I learned (and I’m still learning) is to truly understand my intention in the choices I make. To get honest with myself about what I want and why I want it. When you can remind yourself of that and keep asking yourself if every action you take is serving your intention – you have the ability to feel more grounded, happy and fulfilled.

My intention in milking a cow was simply to experience it. I didn’t have any expectations when it came to how much milk we were going to get, or if I was going to become a pro milker.

How would life feel different for you if your intention was to just fully experience every situation that came your way?

Jungle Life in Costa Rica

Costa Rica has been filled with so many adventures and I have learned so much. Everything from how to use a machete to how banana trees grow.

I love seeing and experiencing how the locals live. It gives me such a greater perspective of the world, allows me to learn new skills and to be grateful for the little things in life we so easily take for granted.

I hope one day you have the opportunity to visit and explore this beautiful country and absorb everything it has to offer.

Orange Picking

Hola from Costa Rica! I am absolutely in love with this country. I’m so grateful my retreat co-host, Sarah, lives in this beautiful place and I have the opportunity to stay on her farm before heading further south to host the Soul Adventure Retreat.

One of the first adventures I had on the farm was orange picking with her adorable sons. They taught me all about oranges and how to make the perfect cup of freshly squeezed OJ.

It’s amazing how something that seems so simple can turn into a really fun adventure and an opportunity to learn new things.

3 Ways to Feel Positive

How to Feel Positive

How to Feel Positive

It’s so easy to let certain situations or expectations get us down – but the true test is all in how we choose to deal with it.

Having a negative mindset tends to be a natural state for many, but the truth is, it takes more energy to be negative. It might take awhile to train your mind to be more positive but once you start living life with this brighter attitude life feels a lot better.

I’ve made a point of leading with a positive mindset and it makes such a big difference. It doesn’t mean I never get frustrated, upset or annoyed – it’s important to embrace all emotions. It’s just equally as important to ask yourself how you want to handle these emotions and how you want to show up in life!

It makes a big difference when you ask yourself who you want to be – and an even bigger difference when you ask yourself who you want to be in those lower feeling moments. When I do catch myself in a more negative mindset there are a few things I do to help me shift out of it. I’m excited to share what those are with you, so you can start feeling happier, lighter and enjoy life in an even bigger way!

Downhill Skiing Adventure

Downhill Skiing Adventure

Downhill Skiing Adventure

Do you ever feel like you’re rushing through life instead of just enjoying the ride?

This is by far one of my biggest struggles. Having patience is a big challenge for me. I’m always wanting to be 10 steps ahead of where I actually am. I’m constantly reminding myself to enjoy the journey and I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.

As I continue my winter adventure mission – I decided to go downhill skiing at the Caledon Ski Club. An adventure that reiterates the importance of slowing down and taking my time. I realize moving quickly isn’t just something I do in my everyday life to get things done, but also on the slopes. I also learned you can easily crash and burn. While it may not be on camera this time around, I had a pretty epic wipeout down the ski hill. The entire day my cousin kept reminding me to ski across the hill not straight down it, because taking my time will give me more control. It look a bit of getting used to, and a few bumps and bruises but I eventually got the hang of it.

I love how each adventure teaches me something about other areas of my life. It’s amazing what you can learn by allowing yourself to get out, have fun and embrace new experiences.

How Lazy Are You?

How lazy are you?

How lazy are you?

This winter has definitely been one for the books!

With all this cold, snow and slush, I’ve been learning some very valuable lessons. As a gal who typically enjoys the summer much more, because I like hiking, hitting up a patio or going to the beach – this time of year can be super challenging.

So, this winter I’ve been working very hard at shifting my mindset – mainly because I’m tired of feeling so blah, grumpy and LAZY! I’ve been doing this by bringing awareness to the “winter stories” aka excuses I’ve been telling myself.

I’ve also realized how my winter mindset applies to other areas in my life and I can’t wait to share my latest revelation with you in this weeks video!

Skating Adventures

Skating Adventures

Skating Adventures

Winter adventures in full effect! This past weekend my bf Jason and I hit the rink with our skates. It was cold, it was snowing and my feet felt like they were going to fall off by the end, but we had SO MUCH FUN! I’m usually not a big fan of winter, despite living up north in Ontario, but I told myself I was going to make the most of it this year!

With every adventure I go on, I always love reflecting on 3 specific things:

What did I learn?

What did I love?

Did I laugh?

These 3 Adventure L’s always help me discover more of who I am and how I grow from different experiences.

With skating I learned that it can be a really fun partner activity. Jason and I had the best time together. It gave us an opportunity to decompress from our day and connect with one another. I also discovered I actually enjoy skating, whereas before I always thought of it as something that would hurt my feet. Turns out buying your own skates really helps with your comfort level 😉

What I loved was being able to get outside in the winter. Usually I’m a hermit because there hasn’t been anything exciting enough to get me outside. Turns out I just needed a mindset adjustment. I also loved holding Jason’s hand and having him pull me around…hehe.

And did I laugh? Ha! I didn’t realize until editing this VLOG how much I giggled and that I had a smile on my face the whole time 🙂

I hope this weeks video inspires you just a little bit to add some winter adventure into your life!

Embarrassing Life Lesson

Embarrassing Life Lesson

Embarrassing Life Lesson

When have you learned a very valuable life lesson? I don’t know about you, but usually all the lessons I learn end up coming from very challenging, heartbreaking or embarrassing experiences. I mean, at the end of the day learning from our mistakes and discovering the outcome of a situation is really how we grow and evolve. If you’re living each day the same and not pushing yourself to do more, your life isn’t going to evolve into more. It’s as simple as that.

Lately I’ve been exploring more and more of my Life Map and learning a lot of valuable lessons from my past. I had a big ah-ha moment reflecting back on getting my ears pierced at 16 years old. The whole thing was a bit embarrassing (which I will share in this weeks video), but on the other side of the embarrassment was a big realization. I would love to know if you can relate!

How to Declutter Your Life

It’s super challenging to declutter your condo, house, office etc. It’s hard to say goodbye to items you’ve had for awhile or invested in. Many of us choose to hold onto things for various reasons, but it’s time to decide if it’s worth keeping! Maybe the item has sentimental value, maybe you spent a lot of money on it, or perhaps you have guilt getting rid of it because you feel you didn’t use it or wear it enough.

One thing I know for sure is that a cluttered space really does take a toll on you mentally. It can feel stressful and overwhelming to constantly be surrounded by STUFF!

My friend Laura was feeling this exact way living in her condo so I paid her a visit to coach her through letting go of certain items in her closet so should can create more space in her home and her life!

I’m hoping her purging story will help inspire you to tackle the clutter in your home so you can feel lighter and more at ease.

In One Year I Changed My Entire Life 1

In One Year I Changed My Entire Life

In One Year I Changed My Entire Life

Ok – confession time. A few years ago I didn’t really know who I was. To be honest, I didn’t think to take the time to think about it. I was just going through the motions of life instead of thinking of the life I wanted to create for myself.

It wasn’t until I got out of a relationship that I was forced to think about what and who I really wanted to be in life. Becoming single changed everything for me. I felt I had this newfound freedom I hadn’t tapped into before. I didn’t realize how much I was holding myself back due to the fact I was in a relationship. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t blame my lack of freedom on the relationship – the problem was I just didn’t have the awareness to realize how I was choosing to show up in the relationship. Relationships can be extremely beautiful, however I also believe they work best when you can compliment each other’s life instead of allowing the relationship to become your life.

Once that relationship did end I found myself automatically searching for other things to fill that void, and in the process unexpectedly found myself! By saying YES to opportunities and seeking out certain adventures, I was unconsciously discovering more and more about who I really was. By continuously stepping outside my comfort zone, I ended up giving myself one of the greatest gifts in the world.

In this weeks video I share more about how I did this, and how you too can create your most epic year yet that will create the foundation for a life you’ll truly love living.

The problem is living with FOMO can stress you out, give you anxiety and drain your energy.

Often we don’t take time to even think about the real fear that’s behind FOMO. Instead we’re just overcome with a strong emotion that leads us to do things without knowing our true intention behind it. Taking the time to think about why you truly want to do something will save you so much time, energy and sanity!

In this weeks video I share what area in my life I struggle with FOMO and give you tips on how to find out if you’re choosing to do things that are serving you the most!

Saying Goodbye to a Passion: How to Re-evaluate Life

How to Re-evaluate Life

How to Re-evaluate Life

This past week has been an emotional one! After a lot of reflection I decided that after 10 years of teaching fitness, it was time to re-evaluate life and let it go.

Teaching fitness has always been a huge passion of mine so this decision was not an easy one to make. As I went through the process of making this choice, I realized I had a lot of fears to overcome.

I believe anytime we find ourselves at a fork in the road it’s important to spend time uncovering the fears that are making it challenging to make a decision. At the end of the day we know what we want – we’re just blinded by fear. By breaking through the different fears it’s far easier to develop more clarity.

It’s also key to recognize the purpose certain events, experiences and people have in your Life Map journey. When I looked back on my Life Map it was incredible to see how becoming a Fitness Instructor was so vital in me becoming who I am today!

In this weeks video I share my journey of becoming a Fitness Instructor, and exactly why I had to say goodbye 10 years later.

Are you nice to yourself?

Are you nice to yourself?

How nice are you to yourself? Do you speak to yourself like you would your best friend? I don’t know about you but I’m definitely harder on myself than I would be to anyone else. Becoming an entrepreneur brought that out even more! All of a sudden I’m literally face to face with myself in everything I do, everything I create and every decision I make. I have no one else to blame for the mistakes I make or the inevitable ‘”failures” I feel I endure. I’ve had to work really hard at being kind to myself because I’ve realized the harder I am on myself the more I’m self sabotaging and playing small.

This weeks video is to help bring awareness to the way you might be treating yourself without even realizing it!

Fall in Love with Winter

So here’s the deal – yes, I’m Canadian, but that certainly doesn’t mean I love winter. However, I’m on a mission to make the best of it this year!

I grew up in Muskoka where we get lots of snow, and as a kid I built snow forts, made snow angels, had snowball fights and made snowmen. As I got older these activities became less appealing and I grew to dislike winter even more. My experience with winter now is defined with lots of grunts as I pull my scarf across my face, sighs as I make my way through the slush and racoon eyes from my mascara as the icicles on my eyelashes start to melt. This is what my perspective of winter has become and I’m ready to change that!

So to get me in the winter spirit I decided to hit up the Toronto Ski and Snowboard Show. I definitely received some amazing winter inspiration and I can’t wait to share it with you so you can fall in love with winter too!

Treetop trekking at Blue Mountain

Wherever my Life Map takes me I’m always on the lookout for amazing adventures!

I recently took a trip up to Blue Mountain, Ontario, where I partnered with NIVEA to give a talk on how to feel good in your skin. After the presentation was over I swapped my jeans for workout pants and met my friend, country music singer Brittany Brodie, for a fun fall outdoor adventure at the Blue Mountain Resort!

Brittany may have been a little more hesitant than I was when I told her we were going ziplning and treetop trekking. Brit isn’t a huge fan of heights so this was completely outside her comfort zone. However, with a little coaching and encouragement, I’m really proud how far she pushed herself.

I also surprised myself when an unexpected fear crept up that caught me a bit off guard.

See what it took for us to work through our nerves in this weeks video!

You’re meant to find your way by exploring different paths. That’s how you find clarity in knowing which path feels like the right one.

Over the course of the day we managed to meet some interesting looking animals, get carjacked, get lost in a corn maze, feel really awkward on a hayride, and get caught in the rain!

Glamping at Whispering Springs

The last time I went camping was with my sisters, cousin and niece about 15 years ago. We packed our tents, cooler and sleeping bags, and huddled together on the hard and lumpy ground to keep warm.

Camping has changed quite a bit since then. It’s even changed it’s name to glamping! My sister and I had the opportunity to experience this new camping experience sans outhouse at the beautiful “Whispering Springs Wilderness Retreat.”

You can now enjoy the great outdoors in a mansion sized tent complete with a king size bed, soaker tub, and electric fireplace. To top off this luxury camping experience, my sister and I had the pleasure of also enjoying a yoga and wellness retreat while we were there.

It was exactly what my body and soul was craving. An escape from the city, healthy food, yoga and an opportunity to reconnect with myself. This is why as a Coach I also love creating retreats. It’s amazing what some time away mixed with some adventure can do!

California Dreamin’: Trust and Let Go

Trust and Let Go

Trust and Let Go

Trust and let go. These words have been playing on repeat in my mind for some time now.

Most recently this new line of thinking came into play during my recent trip to California. It’s always been a dream of mine to do a photoshoot in L.A, cause let’s be honest – it sounds pretty freakin’ fun and cool! So here I was, making the dream a reality! However, I felt completely outside my comfort zone. Thank goodness for my photographer/friend Kate, whose skills I relied on heavily!

I’m not used to being in an unfamiliar city with lots of eyes on me as I try to figure out how to pose like most of the models in L.A. I’m a country girl who grew up in a small town who was taught to just smile at the camera and say cheese.

I quickly realized I needed to get out of my own head or these photos were going to be disastrous! I literally just allowed myself to have complete trust in Kate and the process by reminding myself to just trust and let go.

I soon found myself relaxing more and more and ended up having sooo much fun! It truly is amazing what can happen when you allow yourself to experience something new and a little scary!

Check out this weeks VLOG where I take you behind the scenes of my L.A photoshoot!

California Dreamin’: How to Manifest Your Dreams

Manifest Your Dreams

Manifest Your Dreams

Do you know how to manifest your dreams? I heard that term so many times, but it always felt like it was all a bit of woo woo to be honest. Until, one day it actually happened!

This past spring I felt inspired to visit L.A. The only problem was, I had no real reason to go there and I couldn’t justify a random trip all the way out to the west coast. So,I decided to reach out to some people and plant some seeds to see if I could create some type of opportunity for myself.

I heard back from some people but it all seemed to be a dead end. However, I still couldn’t shake this feeling that I was meant to pay a visit there.

Then out of nowhere I heard from my friends Kim and Mel who were in town visiting from L.A. I met them for lunch and as we were sitting there they mentioned how they were looking for guest teachers for their “You Got This Girl” workshop in L.A. BAM! It was happening. The dream I wanted to come true was manifesting before my eyes!

Not only that, but once the wheels were in motion everything else fell into place so seamlessly! I LOVE when that happens.

I all of a sudden had a place to stay, and was able to take a mini vacation to Santa Barbara before the workshop! (Check out EPS 02 of California Dreamin’: What is Relaxation) PLUS I had the opportunity to have an L.A photoshoot with a talented photog friend who also happened to be there during that time. Stay tuned for EPS 05 of California Dreamin’ to see how that adventure unfolds!

It’s amazing what you can create for yourself with the right intentions and opening yourself up to all possibilities!

I started my adventure that day at the Botanic Gardens, where I may have gotten a little lost. How you can get lost in a botanic garden is beyond me, but somehow I found myself in a place I eventually realized I shouldn’t be!

I then made my way up the mountains of California to see what inspiration I could find!

Wishing on Stars

Wishing on Stars

Wishing on Stars

When I was a little girl wishing on stars was a daily occurrence in my life. It’s also where I felt my journey to become a coach first began. That’s why getting up onstage and telling this story was so important to me – as nerve racking as it felt at first.

You see, as I headed into this year I made a promise to myself to get out there and do whatever I could to get more comfortable as a speaker. This somehow evolved into me signing up for a speaking competition! Something I hadn’t done since I was 11 years old.

I ended up being first up to speak and actually surprised myself with how at ease I felt. I felt really good about my speech and I’m honestly not sure how I could have done much better.

But, I didn’t win, I didn’t even place top 4. That’s ok, however, I surprised myself with the feelings that came up with the results. I all of a sudden started to question if I was good enough, if this is the path I’m actually meant to go down, if all my hard work is worth it! Then I started to beat myself up for feeling like a sore loser! What was happening?! This isn’t like me and this certainly goes against everything I preach! Again…here I go being hard on myself.

Self acceptance is one of the hardest things to master in life. Some days I feel like I have it down and other days I’m thrown into situations like this where I start to question my worth.

However, not winning has in some weird way given me a gift – a really uncomfortable one, but one that’s making me grow and acknowledge I still have work to do in certain areas of my life. This is what helps me stay grounded, to remain human, and for that I’m truly grateful.

Today I wanted to share my speech called Wishing on Stars with you as it’s a very personal story to me and one I’m hoping you can relate to.

With constant deadlines, commitments, a family to look after and working towards our goals, it’s easy to feel as though there isn’t any time left to properly take care of ourselves.

In today’s world we tend to push and push until we’ve pushed ourselves too far. It’s important to pay attention to the signs of burnout before we actually crash and burn.

As much as we want to be Wonder Woman or Superman, we need to start realizing when enough is enough.

This is something that has become very real for me lately. I keep asking myself how much more can I actually take on, what is my limit, and can I really do it all? I’m starting to realize I do have limits and my body is trying to tell me to slow down.

The Real Reason I Became a Life Coach

When I decided to become a Life Coach it wasn’t on a whim and it wasn’t just because I love living a life full of positivity and fulfillment. For me, there’s a lot of different layers to it.

There are three things I’m really passionate about. Teaching, connecting and sharing with others. Living with these intentions I hope I’m able to inspire, empower and help those who are open to it and need it.

This week I felt inspired to share a bit more about who I am with you. To give you a deeper look at my past and to see if there’s anything that might resonate with you.

Any time we share a piece of ourselves with others it allows us to connect on a whole other level. When you teach, you share, which allows you to connect – and that’s why I’m passionate about all those things. They all work in tandem together.

What it Means to be a Unicorn

I’ve recently been experiencing some major shifts in my own personal journey the last few months. It’s crazy how the journey really is never ending!

Through these changes I’ve discovered something magical. I know this might sound hokey and maybe even a bit weird but the best way I can explain this shift is by relating it to a unicorn.

I obviously know unicorns are a mythical creature but they represent something extremely powerful, beautiful and rare.

When I chose to write this post I decided to do some actual unicorn research!

Interesting unicorn fact: Did you know unicorns have 3 horns during their lifetime? Each one becoming more powerful than the last. We may not have horns on our heads but I like to think we also have the ability to become more powerful, let in more light and embrace the magical beings we are.

If I’ve peaked your interest just a little bit, I invite you to check out this weeks video to understand exactly what it means to be a unicorn.

How To Pick Yourself Back Up When Life’s Got You Down

We’ve all been through something that’s taken a bit of a toll on us. For me it was a breakup a few years ago. For others it’s more serious things like health issues, death of loved ones or depression.

No matter how hard life can get we always have a choice when it comes to starring it in the face. Are you going to let it get the best of you, or are you going to pick yourself back up and push through as best you can?

I’m really excited to share this weeks video with you where I interview country singer/songwriter Elyse Saunders who just released her new single ‘Rise’. The story behind this song is so inspirational that I couldn’t resist sharing it with you.

How I Left My Job Despite How Terrified I Was

Wanna know a secret? The day I decided to leave my job I was an absolute wreck. Despite how sure I was about the decision, I still couldn’t hold myself together. The whole thing felt very surreal.

I had been working as a TV Producer for 10 years. I knew how to do my job like the back of my hand, was super comfortable in the routine, and got to attend cool parties and meet celebrities. Who in their right mind would give that up?!

This girl.

I knew there was something else out there for me. Something that required a big part of who I am that I didn’t get to utilize that much in the position I was in. But let me tell you. Despite how sure I was in the decision, it still terrified the crap out of me! I was starting over in a lot of ways and had no idea what my life was going to look like. I still don’t really know, but all I can say is I haven’t regretted it for a single moment.

I could have easily let fear hold me back from making that leap. It would have been much easier to stay in my usual, comfortable routine. In this weeks video I share exactly how I made the choice to leave regardless how scary everything felt.

How Instagram Almost Made Me Lose Real Friends

How Instagram almost made me lose real friends

How Instagram almost made me lose real friends

A couple weeks ago I had what you can call a social media nightmare! It made me realize how much we really turn to social media for the truth about things, when in fact most of the time we’re only getting a small portion of something much bigger.

I know people who scroll through other peoples social feeds and compare their life to it, which only leaves them feeling more empty inside. Others worry about judgement, while some spend hours creeping someone’s profile trying to find answers to something. Before they know it they’ve gone down this rabbit hole ending up on someone else’s profile they don’t even know!

It’s a whole other world that we on some level believe to be reality, but a lot of the time we’re left filling in the blanks with our own stories not even realizing it! These stories usually aren’t pleasant and leave us with really uncomfortable feelings.

My social media story has to do with my Instagram. Check out this weeks video to find out what happened!

How to Deal With The Backseat Drivers in Your Life

How to Deal With the Backseat Drivers in Your Life

How to Deal With the Backseat Drivers in Your Life

Backseat drivers are part of the Life Map language. They are people in your life that you have allowed to control you in some way. Notice how I said YOU’VE allowed to control YOU.

Think about when you’re driving and you have someone in the backseat telling you how to drive or which way to go. You still have control of the wheel, but sometimes that other voice in your ear makes you question your own skills and abilities. So sometimes you choose to listen to them instead of your own inner GPS.

Recognizing who the backseat drivers are in your life will help you set boundaries and remain authentic to who you are and what you want. We can learn the greatest lessons from our backseat drivers if we’re open to learning about ourselves through the challenges they present us with. We can uncover many unhealthy patterns in our life by taking a look at how our backseat drivers have influenced us. Once we understand the lessons in these encounters we can take that information into the present and alter how we communicate and hold onto our power.

In this weeks video I share a couple tools that will help with your anger and frustration when you’re face to face with a backseat driver.

How to Bring Joy to You and Those Around You 3

How to Bring Joy to You and Those Around You

How to Bring Joy to You and Those Around You

Wanna know one of life’s biggest game changers? I make a conscious effort everyday to do more of this one thing, and it has created such joy for myself and others around me. It’s something so simple, yet I see so many people not doing it!

Joy is what feeds a positive mindset. Without creating joy in your life, it’s much more difficult to remain in high spirits. Joy is also contagious. When you’re able to live with a joyful heart it shows other people how they can do the same.

Engaging with people around us is a big part of what can bring us joy. However, with all the distractions in life like cell phones and busy schedules, we forget to create space for those moments that can bring us joy. A lot of the time they’re right in front of us, but can be gone in a flash if we’re not paying attention.

In this weeks video I want to remind you how one simple act can not only shift your day to a much happier place, but also those around you. Give it a try and see how different you feel!

Why it’s OK to Cry 1

Why it's ok to Cry

Why it’s ok to Cry

I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with crying. It feels so good to let it all out, but when it shows up when we don’t really want it to we can end up feeling a lot of shame and embarrassment around it.

This type of vulnerability makes many of us feel weak. I’m always fighting against this stigma because the way I see it is  it takes a lot of strength to be willing to express emotion, or own it when it happens.

Last week I released a video where I got emotional. It didn’t stop me from putting it out there but I did have to get out of my own head a little bit and put aside my fear of what other people might think.

Since releasing the video and receiving an overwhelming positive response, it became more clear why I knew I wanted to share that video. I’ve come to realize that sharing my journey isn’t about me. It’s about others. I think that’s why I’m able to be ok with my vulnerability. I see it more as a service than anything else.

It’s amazing that when you can own who you are and how you feel, how much you give permission to others to do the same.

I’m excited to share this weeks video with you where I dive more into why its important to allow yourself to feel.

Oprah & Deepak 21-Day Meditation Experience: I Didn’t Expect THIS to Happen!

Meditation

Meditation

Meditation has always been one of my biggest challenges. I could never justify just sitting in silence without thinking. I also never really understood the value of it, and just assumed I didn’t really need it.

The last couple of months something has been slowly shifting in me. I wasn’t exactly sure what was happening, but when I had a client mention she was going to be doing the Oprah & Deepak 21-Day Meditation Experience, I decided to jump onboard as well.

I’ve been on a really interesting journey the last few months and during this weeks video I ended up releasing something that has been blocking me for a really long time. I had some hesitation around if I should publicly post this as it’s extremely raw and vulnerable, but I believe part of my purpose is to share my journey as well as helping others discover theirs.

It’s really just about being human, owning who you are and learning how to stand in your power, but the only way you can do that is by releasing all the heavy layers getting in your way – and it takes work!

How I Learned to Ease my Anxiety

How I Learned to Ease my Anxiety

How I Learned to Ease my Anxiety

One of the biggest lessons I’ve been learning big time this past year is how to not be so hard on myself. I tend to be a big dreamer, but what I’ve discovered comes along with that, is a whole whack-load of stress and anxiety – which is obviously no fun at all!

By being a big dreamer I’ve put huge expectations on myself, and when I don’t feel I’m getting close to where I want to be anxiety kicks in big time! I’ve learned the actual term for this type of anxiousness is called high functioning anxiety and what I find triggers it is fear. Fear of not getting to where I want to be, fear of not being good enough, fear of being seen as a failure.

I used to wake up every morning with a pit in my stomach. Worried about how I wasn’t going to see the results I wanted.

The thing with me is I don’t have any problem taking action. I’m not afraid of putting myself out there and seeing what happens. However, the downside is when you feel you’ve done everything you can but you still aren’t seeing the results you want. That’s when the anxiety tends to consume me the most.

It’s taken me a long time to figure out how to get to a place where I feel more at ease, but I’m finally getting there. Sometimes I still have setbacks but I’m much closer to being at peace with myself than I ever have been before.

I’m hoping what I’ve learned throughout this journey can also help you anytime you feel fear and anxiety creep into your life.

How to Discover Your Dream Job

How to Discover Your Dream Job

I had a dream job most people would kill for. Working as a T.V Producer at one of the top networks in Canada, I got to go to fancy events, interview celebrities and hangout on red carpets. Part of me wonders if I’m a little crazy for leaving that job, but at the end of the day deep down something just didn’t feel quite right. I did that job for almost 10 years, and to be honest, it took me a long time to admit that the job just didn’t fulfill me. I always felt like something was missing. There was some disconnect between me and the type of work I was doing. I just didn’t know what else to do with my life and every time I would try and figure it out I just become more and more frustrated because nothing really seemed to excite me.

Figuring out my dream job and doing what I’m super passionate about didn’t just happen overnight. It was a loooong journey, and one that had me in tears A LOT!

In today’s video I share how I figured out what my passion truly is, and tips that might help you discover yours!

How to get over the Monday Blues

Yup – it’s Monday. You know what the worst thing is in my opinion about Monday? It ruins Sunday! There were so many times I sulked around on Sunday’s dreading what was about to happen the next day – the start of a whole new week. A week filled with early mornings, deadlines, conflicts, and certain energy draining co-workers. I mean, who actually likes Monday’s when you put it that way?!

Well, my Monday bashing days are over! Mainly because I’m now an entrepreneur so Monday’s don’t have the same meaning anymore. However, I can still totally relate to that feeling of dread. I’ve been working at busting through this uncomfortable feeling and I’ve actually found a way that works really well! I have a good feeling it will also help with your Monday blues!

How to Gain Clarity in Your Life

How to gain clarity in your life

How to gain clarity in your life

A common theme I hear quite often from people is they lack clarity in their life. Whether it’s to do with their job or in their relationships.

I’ve discovered a few reasons why people struggle so much with this.

For one, people don’t take time to really reflect on their life and think about what they really want in the first place. Deep down they don’t believe they’ll ever discover what it is they truly want so they don’t really bother trying to even figure it out. It’s also challenging for many people to wrap their head around the concept that life is a journey. These days people want answers and they want them now. We don’t have patience with ourselves to venture down that self discovery road. It seems easier just to live each day out – but are you really living if you aren’t truly happy? Is it too much work that you would rather just settle?

There’s also a lot of fear and limiting beliefs that get in the way. If you don’t feel its even possible, then you’re right – it isn’t. But what if it is? You never know unless you open yourself up to the possibilities.

The Life Map is a program that really helps give people clarity about their lives by understanding how their past has shaped them and what fears and limiting beliefs are blocking them for seeing what it really is that they want in life.

Recently I hosted a retreat in Costa Rica where I had the opportunity to take a group of women through the Life Map Program. It was amazing to see the transformations that took place and how they released so many roadblocks!

Check out this weeks video to hear how the Life Map has helped guide these ladies forward.

Making the Impossible Possible: The Soul Adventure Retreat 2017

Life is funny sometimes. I actually catch myself laughing out loud at times when I’m able to witness how seamlessly things fall into place. When I’m able to see clearly how certain things are meant to come together. Lately, I’ve been chuckling at how the first retreat I co-hosted actually became a reality.

About a year ago I received a message on Instagram from a girl I had never met. Her name is Sarah, and she lives on a farm in Costa Rica. She reached out saying she really wanted to host a retreat and was looking for the perfect co-host. I felt so honoured that I had made the cut! After a couple Skype calls we both had a really good feeling about working together and decided to move forward with the planning.

Over the past year we worked at getting all the pieces in place. There were some people I know who were skeptical about us pulling this off, and I’m not going to lie – sometimes I felt that way to. The whole ‘who am I to do something like this’ complex kept creeping in. But when you have a partner to help keep you motivated and accountable it helps!

When we got our first booking that’s when everything started to feel real. The panic we felt was also very real because now we had to make sure we could get enough ladies to come! Luckily everything flowed into place and I truly believe it’s because this retreat was definitely meant to happen.

The bonds that were made, the transformations that took place, and the adventures we embarked on created an unforgettable experience.

Without knowing it, these ladies also gave me a gift. Without them I wouldn’t have known what I’m truly capable of. I wouldn’t have discovered my full potential and realize there’s a leader inside of me that’s been squirming to get out. I want to thank each one of them for their amazing energy and being so open to letting me teach them my Life Map program.

I’m super excited to share the video I created of The Soul Adventure Retreat 2017! I know this is just the beginning of something truly amazing, and I can’t wait to announce the next adventure!

Does Your Job Define You?

Does Your Job Define You?

Does Your Job Define You?

I’ve been wrestling a lot lately with who I am vs. what I do. Ever since leaving my full time job and stepping into a new role, I’ve wondered if who I once was is still a part of who I am.

I’ve had numerous jobs in my life, and once I reached a point where I felt I had a ‘career’, that became my identity. One of the first questions people typically ask you is “what do you do?”. As if what I do is going to give them some giant clue as to who I am as a human.

I find it so fascinating how people react to this question based on how they define themselves by their job. Some people are proud of what they do, while others hold a lot of shame around their job. They sometimes even feel the need to justify why they have a particular job.

In this weeks video I want to help you see you’re so much more than what you do for a living. Check it out.

How I Keep My Cool: Even When I’m Screaming On The Inside

How I Keep My Cool

How I Keep My Cool

A few weeks ago I found myself in a situation where it was hard for me to keep my cool. I feel a little ashamed about the whole thing, but I definitely learned something from it!

I took a dance class at a new studio and the girl behind me kept coming up to me asking if I could move forward while giving me a slight physical nudge. She was really nice about it, and what she was asking made sense, as she didn’t have much space. But for some reason this really got under my skin!

While I responded with a smile and did as she instructed, on the inside all I wanted to do was give her the stink eye and tell her I’m giving her as much room as I can, as the instructor was right in front of me.

As I danced my way through the class I was having a hard time focusing because I was trying to figure out why this bothered me so much!

I ended up realizing quite a few things and I really wanted to share them with you in this weeks video. I hope this helps any time you feel your blood start to boil!

So before you press that send button I want you to ask yourself a couple of really important questions. They will help bring you clarity as to whether or not it’s a good idea to reach out to them.

These questions also work with any decision in life you’re looking to make. I literally ask myself these two questions ALL THE TIME!

The Secret Behind How These Ladies Became Dancers For Beyonce and Janet Jackson

I met dancers Kim Gingras and Mel Mah 7 years ago when they auditioned for ‘So You Think You Can Dance Canada.” As a TV Producer I had the pleasure of interviewing them backstage after they wowed Canada with their amazing moves.

I’m in such awe of these ladies and what they have accomplished since the show.

Kim and Mel became best friends during the show. Right after ‘So You Think You Can Dance Canada’, they took a giant leap and moved to L.A. Both of them were on a mission to become full-time professional dancers. Kim had a dream of one day dancing for Beyonce and Mel had her sights set on working with Janet Jackson.

Their motivation and persistence paid off and they both accomplished their big goal!

In my interview with these ladies they share the ups and downs of their journey, how they pushed through and how anyone can achieve their goals with the right mindset.

They’ve learned so much from their experiences that they decided it’s time to now help others. So they created an empowerment workshop called ‘You Got This, Girl’ that is dedicated to educating and inspiring young females.

There is so much goodness in this interview and I’m so excited for you to watch!

The Real Reason You’re Not Achieving Your Goals

The Real Reason You're Not Achieving Your Goals

The Real Reason You’re Not Achieving Your Goals

I’ve worked with many people when it comes to setting and achieving goals and I’ve learned it’s not as easy as ABC. There are so many factors when it comes to goal setting. A lot of them we don’t tend to be aware of.

As we get closer to the New Year and start setting new resolutions, it’s important to keep these tips in mind.

When we first think of goal setting we typically look at the big picture and then figure out the smaller action steps we need to take to get there. It’s not as simple as that. Even knowing your “why” or your intention may not always be enough.

The real reason you may not be achieving your goals is because you didn’t do enough work around initially setting the goal in the first place. If you truly want to make changes in your life, the first action step you need to take is doing work around your limiting beliefs. Those unconscious beliefs easily creep into our ability to reach our goals.

Check out this weeks video to learn more about how to go after what you really want in life.

How to Get People to Notice You

How to get people to notice you

This past year I’ve learned a really big lesson when it comes to getting people to notice me.

For about 9 years I became quite quiet and really comfortable doing the same thing day after day. At the same time I also felt frustrated because nothing was changing in my life. Now I realize how small I was keeping myself. I was afraid to take more initiative or risks because I was afraid I would fail. I just assumed people knew what I was good at and when the time was right opportunities would just come my way.

Let me tell you – that kind of thinking rarely gets you anywhere! If you want more out of life and people to notice you, you have to find ways to create opportunities for yourself.

It’s important to realize Prince Charming isn’t just going to fall from the sky, or that job isn’t just going to magically appear in front of you. You need to take action and put yourself out there!

Reach Your Full Potential: The #1 Question to Ask Yourself

Reach Your Full Potential

Reach Your Full Potential

We’re all striving to reach our full potential. Why else would we beat ourselves up, not feel we’re good enough, or keep wondering what else is out there? I think where most of us get stuck is not knowing what the next step is. Or that the next step is a risky one.

Our fears get in the way a lot. The thoughts that enter our mind when we think about taking a risk, tend to revolve around the worst case scenario. These thoughts keep us from making any big changes in our life.

It’s funny because even when we try to pump ourselves up, we tend to ask ourselves “what’s the worst that can happen?” At the end of the day we’re still coming from a really negative place.

As I was heading to teach one of my fitness classes last week, I saw something that hit me hard. I came across a massive ad plastered all over the walls in one of the subway stations. It had a giant tag line that will really change the way you look at your life! Apparently you can learn a thing or two from advertisements!

If you truly want to start living up to your full potential, start using the question I’m about to share with you in this weeks video.

Why we Judge: Understand the 5 Judgment Blocks

I have to confess – I love exploring judgment and where it comes from. This has always been something I’ve analyzed in my life. Even from a really young age.

Over the past year I’ve gotten really deep with it and have come up with different philosophies as to why exactly we judge others. I’m actually really pumped to share this with you!

Every single one of us is guilty for judging someone and we’ve all had people judge us. We’re human and it’s natural. The key is to catch yourself when you’re making a judgment and really ask yourself where it’s coming from.

Having a deeper understanding of where judgment stems from will also make it easier to dismiss what other people think. This allows us to focus on our own lives with more ease.

Watch this weeks video to discover the 5 different judgment blocks.

Are you headed down a one-way street?

Are you headed down a one-way street?

I guarantee we’ve all been down a one-way street at some point in our lives – likely more than once. Even if you aren’t currently on one, it’s important to recognize when they start to appear in your life.

One-way streets are part of the Life Map language I’ve created. It means you’re heading somewhere that feels like your only option, and closing yourself off to other ideas and possibilities.

A lot of the time we do this without even realizing it. This is mainly based on us getting caught up in society’s belief systems.

Society has taught us how to behave, how we should look, and how we’re supposed to live our life. Go to school, get a job, get married, have kids yadda, yadda, yadda!

While I do believe some of these beliefs are starting to shift as more and more people challenge them, for many of us these beliefs can be tough to break. It’s not until we take a close look at them that we start to see and understand how they may be holding us back and not serving us in the way we originally thought.

As you look at your life ask yourself what decisions you’ve made or are currently making based on society’s belief systems.

Maybe you went to College or University because it seemed like the “right” thing to do, but deep down didn’t feel quite right. Or maybe you got married or you’re in a relationship with someone despite your inner GPS (intuition) telling you otherwise.

Check out this weeks video to help you see the one-way streets you may be headed down!

Coincidence or Message From the Universe? 2

Message From the Universe?

Message From the Universe?

A coincidence or a message from the universe? This is something I’ve been questioning for the past month while I’ve been here in NYC.

I’ve been here for almost 2 months now and there have been some really interesting events that have taken place. The synchronicities are so out there that I can’t help but wonder if they have a deeper meaning than just being coincidences.

These experiences have really forced me to take a step back and be really present to the opportunities that are presenting themselves.

In this weeks video I’m looking forward to sharing these stories with you, hearing your thoughts and if you’ve had something happen in your life that’s also made you question if there’s something more powerful at play.

How Times Square Changed my Perspective

How Times Square Shifted my Perspective

How Times Square Shifted my Perspective

It’s funny how one little event can completely change your perspective. This happened to me recently in NYC. I had been in New York for over a month and I still hadn’t made it to Times Square during this particular trip. Wanting to feel more like a local than a tourist, I suppose I had been unconsciously avoiding the mayhem.

However, I was close by one day and wanted to feel the crazy energy of midtown. Of course there were thousands of people milling about and you had to strategically plan every step you took. At one point I was at a cross walk waiting for the light to change when this man backed up right into me!

I’m sure we’ve all experienced times when someone wasn’t looking where they were going and ran right into you. It’s so easy to get super irritated, and that’s exactly the reaction I had. I totally rolled my eyes and under my breath whispered “seriously?”

Then a split second later this bus was turning the corner and ended up coming up on part of the sidewalk – right where that man was standing! I soon realized if he hasn’t backed up into me in that moment he would have been taken out by that bus!

This moment in Times Square is when I started to really shift my perspective on how I view other people – whether it’s people I know or strangers on the street.

Watch this weeks video to learn how you can also move past the frustrating actions of others.

Discover How to Refill Your Tank

Refill Your Tank

Life Map – Refill Your Tank

I’m really excited to continue sharing more of the Life Map concept and it’s lingo with you!

The idea behind the Life Map is to really help you understand your journey up until now, to own your story and discover how certain people, events and experiences have helped shape who you are. It will also clear any roadblocks that are currently in your way so you can start achieving those goals you set out for yourself.

There’s specific language that will give you a deeper look into who you really are and the different experiences you’ve had in your life. For example, you’ll be able to recognize when you’ve shifted gears, or when you hit a fork in the road. You will know exactly what’s in your roadside assistance kit, and be able to pinpoint the navigators in your life. Having all this insight from your past will help guide you forward into a life filled with more meaning, purpose and fulfillment.

Today I want to talk about how to refill your tank! Just like how your car needs to be filled with gas – so do you!

We’ve all had times when we’ve felt low. Maybe it has to do with a relationship, a job or just an overall feeling of not being fulfilled.

When you’re in that place it can be really challenging to pull yourself out of it. What really helps is being aware of what it takes to fill you back up. It’s rare we think about this in times of feeling low but it’s a good practice to start getting into so we can pull ourselves out of it faster!

Check out this weeks video to help you discover how you can start refilling your tank today!

Feeling Overwhelmed With Life – The #1 Tip to Combat Stress

Feeling Overwhelmed With Life

Feeling Overwhelmed With Life

The past few months have felt like a massive roller coaster ride. Sometimes I want to scream and get off the ride ASAP and sometimes I want to throw my hands up in the air with delight and giggle my way through the entire ride.

Life is hard. Life is messy. It’s also beautiful and amazing.

When we feel stressed and overwhelmed it’s hard to always see the beauty in it.

My mind has been feeling very scattered lately. I’ve been struggling to stay focused because I’m overwhelmed with so many different ideas, tasks, and opportunities. On top of that I also can’t help but feel a lot of doubt and fear about the future.

I knew something was really wrong when I went to film some new videos a couple weeks ago and I couldn’t even string a sentence together! That’s when I knew I had to take a time out. I decided to spend some time in Central Park where I ended up creating a system to help shed what I call thought layers. This really helped to ground me and allowed me to become clear on what’s truly important.

I’m really excited to share this technique with you in this weeks video as it changed things dramatically for me.

5 Healthy Morning Habits to do Before Work

Healthy Morning Habits

Healthy Morning Habits

The morning is a crucial time to fit in some healthy habits because they will help set the tone for the rest of the day.

Accomplishing something and getting yourself in a good mindset before even getting to work helps keep the productivity wheel spinning. Once you’re on that train you’re motivated to keep going because it feels so good!

Your brain is also the most alert in the morning and there tends to be fewer distractions. As your day continues, more tasks usually pop up that requires you to prioritize differently than you normally would need to first thing in the morning.

In this weeks video I share 5 healthy morning habits you can start implementing into your daily routine to make you feel more energized and pumped for the day ahead.

Who are your Navigators?

Who are your navigators?

Who are your navigators?

Who we are in life is based on a number of significant factors. It’s a combination of our values, beliefs, experiences, and people we’ve met along the way.

A big part of the Life Map program I’ve created is the language. I’ve chosen specific metaphors based around going on a road trip, a.k.a your life journey. Phrases such as shifting gears, hitting a fork in the road and know when to refill your tank, help give clarity around a situation you might be going through.

Today I want to talk about the Navigators in your life.

The Navigators in your life are people who have helped guide you down a certain road. Maybe they taught you something that changed the way you see or do something. Or maybe they gave you an opportunity in life that helped guide you in a different direction that changed your life for the better.

I’ve had some major Navigators in my life lately. I’ve met quite a few people who have helped open doors for me or shared information that changed how I do things.

Check out this weeks video to better understand who the Navigators are in your life!

How to Become a Morning Person 1

How to become a morning person

How to become a morning person

I never used to be a morning person. I was that person who hit the snooze button over and over again. Sometimes to the point where it would shut off completely and I would almost be late for work!

However, things have shifted for me quite a bit this past year. Becoming an entrepreneur requires me to work from home a lot, and I found I wasn’t starting my day off right.

I was waking up and rolling right from my bed onto my couch and laptop. I was feeling sluggish and needed something to get my body and mind moving. So I decided to start going to 7am yoga – which is not an easy shift for someone who isn’t a morning person!

When I first decided to do this I felt the need to do it everyday to get in the habit of making this routine stick.  I was putting a lot of pressure on myself to go 5 days a week and I felt if I didn’t do this I would be failing.

In this weeks video I share how I managed to get myself up early and into a routine I feel good about!

Benefits of Creating Your Life Map

Your Life Map

Your Life Map

This past year has been all about throwing myself 100% into building a life and business I love. Let’s call it #theyearofsharon2.0! The only problem was I realized I wasn’t really sharing the full story of who I am and creating a business that reached the deepest part of my core. At the end of the day I’m a small town girl from Muskoka who loves adventure, dreaming big and helping others do the same.

I had a huge epiphany this past spring and realized it was time to own my story and create something that will help people own theirs. I’ve developed a coaching concept called your Life Map. Every time I talk about it I can’t help but smile and I’m so excited to share this new vision with you!

The Life Map is a tool designed to help you move forward towards a new destination, to help get you unstuck and build your self-awareness so you can make choices that feel good. Its purpose is to bring you clarity on how you’ve ended up on the road you’re currently on, and how previous experiences, events and people have shaped your belief system, values and self worth. The key is to uncover how certain patterns and choices have taken you off course and how certain passengers and backseat drivers have played a huge role in guiding or distracting you from your purpose. I’ve also created specific programs that will allow you to create your very own Life Map! Think of it as going on a road trip with me as your guide!

Feel confident meeting new people

I know how intimidating it can feel to be at an event or a party and not know anyone. It’s easy to feel awkward, or out of place and can be really challenging to start a conversation with someone you don’t know, especially if you’re more of an introvert. I have been in this situation so many times and I sometimes still need to give myself a bit of a pep talk before entering new territory!

It’s normal to feel a little anxious in this situation, but it’s important you don’t avoid these outings out of pure fear because it’s just going to make it harder the next time. The more you do something the more confident you become. That goes for anything – even meeting new people. Once you get in the groove of it you’ll notice a huge change in your confidence. It just takes a bit of time to work up to it.

How to Deal with Annoying People

How to deal with annoying people

How to deal with annoying people

I find it fascinating how certain people can get under our skin and irritate us beyond belief. I find it even more interesting how other people may not be phased at all by the exact same thing!

Some people have the ability to trigger us in unusual ways and it’s so easy to judge them based on how we interpret their actions and behaviour. There are always clues behind why certain things bother us. To be able to understand it more clearly and let it go, you have to take a step back and really ask yourself why that particular thing is bothering you so much. Many of us don’t think to ask ourselves this question and continue on feeling more annoyed than we need to.

I believe it’s important to start challenging yourself next time you feel annoyed by someone. You might come across some fascinating discoveries!

I’ve Always Struggled with People Cancelling – Until now 2

The struggle with people cancelling

The struggle with people cancelling

I’ve always struggled with people cancelling on me. It would drive me nuts! I felt like people didn’t respect my time, or I didn’t matter enough to them and I became really frustrated and felt defeated.

This is a terrible mindset to be in. Not only am I feeling sorry for myself, but I’m also not taking into consideration how the other person feels or what they might be going through that’s causing them to cancel in the first place.

It’s so easy to get wrapped up and lost in our own thoughts and assumptions and fall into victim mentality where woe is me.

To live a more fulfilling life it’s important you find ways that will help pull you out of this negative thinking trap. It requires you to retrain your brain a bit but once you get into the habit of it, you will feel so much more free!

Check out this weeks video to see how I’ve been able to shift my mindset about an issue that has been one of my biggest pet peeves my entire life!

Why Going to NYC Feels Like the Best Idea Ever!

NYC

NYC

Ever since I was a little girl I’ve wanted to live in NYC. I wrote about it in my journal and day dreamed about it constantly. I wanted to attend Juilliard so badly I even had them mail me an info package so I could try and plan out how exactly I was going to make it happen. Let’s just say between the tuition costs and my acting background it didn’t quite happen.

My dream may not have happened exactly how I envisioned it, but I’m really excited to say that I just booked a ticket to NYC without knowing exactly when I’m coming back. The timing couldn’t be more perfect right now and everything flowed into place with such ease. That’s when you know it’s right.

I’ve been trying to focus more on allowing things to flow in my life instead of forcing them. Forcing something to happen never feels good, and it usually never turns out how you envisioned it. This week I take a look at different times in my life that felt forced vs. when it just flowed.

Is there something in your life you’re trying to force right now? Ask yourself how well that’s working for ya.

My Struggle with Having Patience – How I’ve Learned to Chill Out 2

My struggle with patience

My struggle with patience

Ever since I was a kid I’ve been known to be quite determined. When I have my mind set on something there’s no looking back. I throw everything I have into making it happen. Some might call it stubborn, but I believe if it feels right and I’m not hurting myself or anyone else, it’s considered determination.

As many benefits as there are to having a determined mindset, there is one thing I’ve always struggled with – patience! The lack of patience I have tends to produce a lot of anxiety. I have such a vision of where I want to be, but I struggle with the patience to get there. I tend to want it all, and want it now!

Becoming an entrepreneur has really tested my patience, and I realized I needed to create a system that will help me stay more present and enjoy the process. In this weeks video I share a simple strategy that has helped me chill out… a lot! It can also help YOU in many other areas of life, such as boosting motivation or confidence.
